Privacy notice
Last updated 5 November 2026
emuLearning is in a beta, open to the families we have invited. This notice says, in plain words, what we keep about your family, why, where it is kept, for how long, and how to have it removed. A full privacy policy, reviewed by a lawyer, will replace it before we open to everyone. If anything here changes, we will email you before it applies.
What we keep
About you, the parent or guardian
- Your name and email address, and the password or Google account you sign in with. Clerk, the service that signs you in, holds these. We keep your name and email address too.
- When your account was made, and if you ask us to close it, when you asked.
About each learner you add
- Their first name, grade and French programme, and in the secondary grades their pathway and courses.
- The time zone of the device you added them on, so their day starts at their own midnight.
- The questions set for each week, each answer they give, whether it was right, when they gave it, and how long it took.
- Which topics they have practised, and when they last practised.
We never ask for a learner’s last name, birthday, photo, school or email address. A learner never has an account of their own: yours is the account.
Otherwise
- If you joined the waiting list: your email address, and which page you joined from.
- If something goes wrong on our side: an error report, which says where it happened and carries no name, email address or answer.
- Our host keeps short-lived server logs, which include the IP address a request came from.
Why we keep it
- To set each learner’s daily practice, mark their answers and show how they are doing.
- To run your account: signing in, Settings, and removing a learner or the account when you ask.
- To email you when it matters, such as when a learner or your account is set to be deleted.
- To find and fix what goes wrong.
We do not sell your family’s information, show advertising, or use it to train artificial intelligence.
Where it is kept, and who helps us
- Supabase holds our database, in Canada (Montréal).
- Vercel runs the site. The servers that handle your family’s practice are in Montréal.
- Clerk signs you in, in the United States. It holds your name, email address and password or Google sign-in.
- Resend sends our emails, from the United States. It sees your email address and what we send you. We never name a learner in an email.
- Sentry receives our error reports, in the United States, with no name, email address or answer in them.
- Google Workspace holds our email inbox, if you write to us.
Because some of these services are in the United States, your information may be processed there, and may be subject to the laws of the United States.
How long we keep it
- Everything, while your account is open.
- You can remove a learner, or close your account, at any time in Settings. Nothing is erased for 14 days, so you can change your mind. After that it is deleted for good.
- If nobody in your family has practised for 24 months, we delete your account in the same way. We keep only totals, such as how many learners got a question right, which name nobody and are never shown for a group of fewer than ten learners.
- We keep no backups. Once something is deleted, nobody can bring it back, us included.
- We keep a record that an account or learner was deleted, and when, under a random number that identifies nobody.
- A waiting-list address stays until you ask us to remove it.
Your choices
- To see what we hold about your family, write to hello@emulearning.ca and we will send you a copy. To correct something, write to us too.
- To delete a learner or your whole account, use Settings, or write to us.
- If you have a concern, write to us first. If we do not settle it, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or in Quebec, the Commission d’accès à l’information.
Keeping it safe
- Everything travels encrypted, and our database refuses any connection that is not.
- The database keeps each family apart: a request can reach only the family that is signed in.
- If a breach puts your family at real risk of significant harm, we will tell you, and the Privacy Commissioner, as soon as we can.
Cookies
Only the ones the site needs: Clerk’s, to keep you signed in; one that remembers, for ten minutes, that a grown-up passed the check before Settings; and one that remembers dark mode, if you chose it. No advertising or tracking cookies.
